Destination: Athens, Greece

First stop on our tour was Greece, Athens specifically.

Greece had always been somewhere I wanted to visit especially after doing classical studies in high school and finally I got the chance. We only had 1 full day in Athens so were limited on our choices of what to do. We went for the obvious solution and decided on the Acropolis.

The Acropolis is probably the most famous site in Athens, and for €12 you can purchase a ticket that allows you to visit the different buildings at the top as well as 6 or 8 different other sites.

Along with the Acropolis, we visited Hadrian’s Library, the Ancient Agora of  Athens, Olympieio (or temple of Zeus located right next to Hadrian’s gate) just to name a few. We started our day at about 10am and after a lunch break, we were done about 4.

There was one last stop that the boy wanted to make and that was to Panathenaic Stadium, home to the first modern Olympics

(Fun fact: the reason a marathon is 26.2miles is because that’s the distance between the town of Marathon and the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece)

As we  had an early boat to catch the next morning we headed back to our hostel (which shall remain nameless) and after tucking into a homemade Greek salad (trying to be cheap guys) we headed in for an earlyish night.
