A day trip to Kutná Hora

Just over an hour from Prague by train is the small town of Kutná Hora.

While here you can marvel at the amount of work put into decorating their buildings. IMG_1001.JPGThen wander the streets trying to find your favourite. IMG_0998.JPG

Stare in awe at St Barbara’s Cathedral (another Unesco site to tick off)

Or see if you can spot all the bones of the human body in the Sedic Ossuary.

Yep that’s right human bones, IMG_1020.JPGIMG_1022.JPGIMG_1022-0.JPG

And you thought the outside of their houses were elaborately decorated.

  1. This looks so cool! I’ve been wanting to visit Sedlec Ossuary since I discovered its existence…but I didn’t know it was so close to Prague!

    1. I didn’t realise either, Thank goodness for someone on twitter. And it’s so easy to do on your own.

  2. Hi, this is very nice post, I liked your photos. I have been to Kutná hora this year as well, so it was nice to bring back the memories.

I have a blog about Czech Republic and am going to put link to your post into my post about czech towns to visit.

Just a little P.S. the town is called KUTNÁ hora not Kuntá. I am native speaker so I can tell the difference. No offence.

    Have a nice time.

    1. Oh thanks for letting me know.
I’ll make sure to check out your blog

      1. Hi, no problem and thank you.

I wanted to ask if you would mind if I reblogged your post on my blog instead of putting there just a link.
        Please let me know. tx

        1. That’s no problem, Glad you enjoyed it that much 🙂

  3. Wow, what an amazing place!

    1. It was. It would be so hard to picture a place like that in New Zealand

Ok some of these buildings are just gorgeous but I must admit, some of the other ones seem rather more creepy!!

    1. It was rather creepy in Sedlec Ossuary. There were about 3 piles of skulls, Its hard to imagine how many it took to build such large piles.

Looks like such a charming little place, except for the bones, those are just fascinating!

    1. They really were. People use to pay money to have their bones placed there

    1. It really was. So glad we went

  6. Reblogged this on Czech Menu and commented:
I am reblogging this nice post about Kutná Hora town from Jenjaroo. This town is really interesting and nice place to visit. I am sure you will manage to buy yourself a train ticket at the Prague railway station and go for a trip.

  7. I’ve visited Kutná Hora twice and enjoyed it both times. I’d say it’s definitely one of the “Must do’s” in the Czech Republic.

St. Barbora’s Church, in the centre of the town is one of my favorite buildings in the Czech Republic; it’s a quite rare example of French Gothic architecture in the country.
